On June 11th, 2018 I made the decision to change my life.
In May 2018, I went to an appointment at my OBGYN’s office. I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), was newly married and wanted to see about starting a family with my husband. I was scheduled to have an ovarian ultrasound and so I figured everything would be fine. Oh, how wrong I was. Upon looking at the monitor during the ultrasound, I saw my ovaries for the first time in years. They were almost the size of golf balls, inflamed and covered in follicles (cysts). I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. Following that appointment, I sat in my car and cried. I was so angry at myself.
"On June 11th, 2018 I began eating a high fat, moderate protein & extremely low carb Ketogenic Diet."
I immediately looked up how much it would cost to have weight loss surgery. I was feeling desperate. But, when I attended a seminar about it, I looked around the room and noticed that at 290 pounds, I was the smallest person there. I still remember the voice inside my head telling me that this wasn’t the path I should go down.
And so, I began researching. I wanted to know what the best diet for treating PCOS would be. And with that, I came across the Ketogenic Diet. It was actually Dr. Ken Berry’s video on PCOS where he talked about the Ketogenic Diet being the best possible thing for it. And my research built up from there! Before I knew it, I was ready to begin, and so I did. On June 11th, 2018 I began eating a high fat, moderate protein & extremely low carb Ketogenic Diet. I stick to 20 total carbs or less a day.
"I didn't start my journey purely to lose weight, although that has been a blessing."
Since that day, I have lost 110 pounds to date. I still have approximately 35 more pounds to go until I reach my goal weight of 145 pounds. However, I didn’t start my journey purely to lose weight, although that’s been such a blessing! My A1C has gone from a 5.3 to a 4.6, my resting blood pressure has gone from 140/80 to 110/65 AND, the best part of it all, my menstrual cycles have become regular for the first time in my life. My PCOS symptoms have diminished. (Also- I was able to quit smoking cold turkey! Still going 10 months strong!)
"Keto has saved my life. It has saved my fertility."
Keto has saved my life. It has saved my fertility. For the first time in my life, I think happily of the future and what it has to hold for my family. Keto rocks! And remember, if I can do this, so can you!!
All the love,
